Activities for IC1: Lesson 3

Games for learning dates/time
Living Calendar:  Without using a real calendar, the teacher says a date in Chinese (For example: Jiu3yue4 si4hao4, xing1qi1er4  [September 4, Tuesday]) and asks a student to say the next date on the calendar (Jiu3yue4 wu3hao4, xing1qi1 san1 [September 5, Wednesday]). Then a third student says the date after that, etc.   (For a description of this game see Let's Play Games in Chinese, pp. 89-90.)
What Date Is It? The teacher divides the class into two teams. The students in one team take turns to ask questions in Chinese, such as: "Jin1tian1 shi4 xing1qi1wu3, ming2tian1 shi4 _____. " ("Today is Friday. Tomorrow is____ .") The students in the other team take turns to answer the questions. (For a description of this game see Let's Play Games in Chinese, pp. 87-88.)
What Time is It? The teacher puts a clock in front of the class or draws a clock on the blackboard. The teacher divides the class into two teams. The two teams take turns to set the clock to any time and ask the other team to tell the time. (For a description of this game see Let's Play Games in Chinese, pp. 85-86.)
