Activities for IC2: Lesson 11

Listening activity: Recognizing places
Name the Place: The teacher prepares a list of four or five places with distinctive characteristics and puts their names on the board. The students should be familiar with the names, even if they don't know a lot of details about the places. One by one, the teacher describes places on the list (in random order) and asks the students to identify the place s/he is talking about. At the end of each description students can be asked what words they heard that helped them identify the place.

Speaking: Describing places
Describe the place: Once students have enough language to be able to describe a place in terms of its climate, terrain, attractions, etc., the teacher may prepare pictures of four places familiar to the students (perhaps cities in the US). Working in groups of three or four, students prepare a description of one place without letting other students know which place they have chosen. At the end of the activity, each group gives its description and asks the rest of the class to identify which place is being talked about.
