AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT
CLTA is pleased to announce three awards open for competition: the Walton Award, the Walton Presentation Prize, and the Cheng & Tsui Professional Development Award.
Walton Award
The Walton Award is given for overall contributions to the field of Chinese
language pedagogy. All members in the community of Chinese language teaching and
research, with the exception of current CLTA Board of Directors and Officers,
are eligible for the award. The Walton Award consists of a plaque presented at
the CLTA Annual Meeting.

Walton Presentation Prize
The Walton Presentation Prize is given to recognize the best first-time
presentation at the CLTA Annual Meeting. Preference is given to teachers at the
pre-college level and graduate students who have their paper proposals accepted
for the annual meeting. The Walton Presentation Prize carries an award of
$250.00 and an invitation for publication in the Journal of the Chinese Language
Teachers' Association.
CLTA members may indicate their eligibility on the paper proposal form for the CLTA Annual Meeting, published in the December issue of the CLTA Newsletter each year.
Cheng & Tsui Professional Development Award
The newly established Cheng & Tsui Professional Development Award is
designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of teachers of Chinese, especially
new teachers in the field. The award is given to support the attendance of
pre-collegiate and collegiate teachers to training workshops and seminars at the
local, national, or international levels. First-time attendees to training
workshops are strongly encouraged to apply. Teacher training workshops and
seminars attended by the applicants should be focused on pedagogy and issues on
teaching and learning. The fund has designated annually the amount of $1,000 to
be divided between at least two teachers each year. The Award Committee grants
the award on a rolling basis throughout the year until the fund is disbursed.
Interested applicants for the Cheng & Tsui Professional Development Award should write a letter of application stating the title and the organizer of the workshop, time, location, the amount of subsidy they seek from the proposed budget, and should submit a current Curriculum Vitae. The application letter should be sent to the Chair of Award Committee at least two month ahead of the workshop time.
