Full-Time Open-Rank Position in Chinese Language

The Division of Asian and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures invites applications for a full-time position at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track), tenured Associate Professor, or tenured Full Professor, beginning August 25, 2002. Preference will be given to candidates with specialization in language and applied linguistics and with experience in instructional technology. Candidates must have proven ability in the use of modern standard Chinese, written and spoken, at the native or near-native level, as well as significant experience teaching modern Chinese at the college-level in the United States or Canada. Duties include coordinating the Chinese language program, teaching courses in Advanced Chinese (Third and Fourth year level) and one other course, as well as undergraduate advising, and research. A letter of application, CV, at least one sample of published research (or Ph.D. dissertation if applying for Assistant Professorship), a video-tape of classroom teaching, and three letters of recommendation must be received by October 15, 2001. Candidates passing initial screening of materials will be interviewed at the annual meeting of the ACTFL/Chinese Language Teachers Association in Washington, DC, November 15-18, 2001. Attendance at this meeting, however, is not a requirement.
