TLI-Language 2 Academy is pleased to announce the second Mandarin teacher workshop and the first training for Southern Min (Taiwanese) language sponsored by Taipei Language Institute. This workshop is designed for those who are interested in teaching Mandarin or Taiwanese as the 2nd language in the U.S. Course details follow:

Taipei Language Institute (TLI), offering professional Mandarin & Taiwanese courses for over 45 years, is at the forefront of teacher training, curriculum and textbook development for teaching Chinese and Taiwanese as Foreign Languages. Rigorous research in modern teaching methods and regular teacher training have made TLI trained instructors among the most qualified in their profession. With over 150 publications, it has developed curriculum for all ages and professions, which is now used in over 70 countries worldwide. TLI has provided language training to government officials, journalist, and universities faculties, and also offered support to develop and enhance language programs. TLI teacher training graduates have taught the language not only within TLI organizations but also in other famous language institutions all over the world.
Certification: Participants will be evaluated at the end of the course and those who complete successfully will earn a certificate from TLI-L2A Chinese Language Center. These certificates will also qualify participants to work at TLI centers around the world, including:

Teaching Opportunities: The Bay Area has a great concentration of Chinese and Taiwanese families who are interested in keeping the language tradition and cultural heritage. With the increasing business opportunities among the U.S. companies and enterprises not only in China or Taiwan, but also in places in Southern Asia where Chinese language is commonly spoken, more and more Americans are taking Mandarin and Taiwanese than ever before. Respectful institutions such as Harvard University are starting to offer Taiwanese language due to the increasing demand and awareness of its importance and popularity.
Schedule and Fees: A one-week intensive course will be offered during August 6-11. Fee for all 36 hours of training and materials add up to $500.00 + $50 registration fee. Registered before 6/29 will entitle a free registration fee. Classes will meet from 9-4 pm, with one hour lunch break. Three people from the same institution signing up at the same time will entitle a 5% discount from the tuition.
Requirements: Applicants should have college degree and be native-like fluent in Mandarin Chinese for Course 1 and native-like fluent in Taiwanese for Course 2.
Application: Final application deadline is 7/13/2001. For the 5% discount (groups of three), 6/29. Enrollment is limited to 20 people for each training course.
