Chinese Language & Modern Literature/Film/Cultural History

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures is conducting a search for a one-year position in Chinese at the visiting Assistant Professor level, to begin September 16, 2002. The one-year appointment is renewable for up to three years contingent upon review. We are looking for a dynamic scholar and teacher with a research focus on modern literature, film, or cultural theory. The position requires native or near native fluency in Mandarin and English, a strong commitment to excellence in scholarship, and dedication to undergraduate and graduate teaching in both the language program and the applicant's research area. Duties include teaching large undergraduate survey courses in modern literature and film, graduate seminars, and possibly one advanced language course. Graduate student advising and mentoring, as well as active participation in our growing graduate program, is also expected. Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline is required. Deadline for application is June 15, 2002. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
