Summer Program 2002

June 17 – August 23

Conducting successful business activities in China begins with an understanding of China’s unique business climate. This 4th year level Business Chinese Summer Program will focus on China’s current international trade issues. Course subjects will include such international business activities as trade, banking, marketing, business law and economic reform. Contemporary newspaper reports, periodicals, documentary materials, government statistics, as well as video recordings will be the main tools to explore different aspects of international business in China. The primary emphasis of this the Summer Program will be placed on listening comprehension and speaking fluency.

Establishing Your Contacts in China Early – While You are Still in School

The course is designed for students who are interested in doing business in China. Each week, there will be guided field trips to local companies, U.S. – China joint ventures or governmental agencies. Other cultural events such as visits to historical and cultural sites may be included. A field trip to the Pudong Business District of Shanghai is scheduled in the last week of the course. The Summer Program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Students who have three years of college-level Chinese or who exhibit considerable knowledge of the Chinese language, including speaking, reading and writing through living experience are also encouraged to apply.
