Chinese Language and Culture Position

The Regional Center for Languages and Cultures at Bennington College, VT invites candidates in Chinese for a position as a Master Teacher. The Center's mission is to organize and implement a multi-level program in Chinese with proficiency-oriented curriculum and requires candidates with substantial pedagogical experience, experience in computer-based instruction, innovative ideas on language acquisition, a background in area studies, and a strong record of professional involvement and leadership. The Center has an outreach educational mission in area and local schools. Preference will be given to candidates who combine demonstrated excellencein teaching, leadership in program and curriculum development and expertise in multimedia and CAI. PhD in language education or area studies preferred, but serious consideration will be given to candidates nearing completion or candidates with considerable teaching experience. Native or near native fluency in both target language and English a must. Our goal in this search is to create the best fit between the candidate's expertise and the Regional Center's programs and philosophy. We seek someone committed and qualified to take the lead in developing course work in language and culture for a varied audience, to develop computerized materials and to participate in the development of an interdisciplinary curriculum.
