Gewei,

I am very saddened to relate the news of the passing of Professor Gregory Chiang. Chiang Laoshi had been teaching Chinese at Middlebury College both at the regular academic year program and at the Middlebury Summer Chinese School for more than two decades. He is the author of a popular two-volume classical Chinese textbook. Chiang Laoshi had been VERY active in the our field. He kept a very busy national conference presentations over the past decade. Chiang Laoshi died young.

Dear Chuanren:

It is with great sadness I write to inform you of the passing of Professor Gregory Chiang (Jiang Guige Laoshi). Gregory passed away early Sunday (October 15) morning at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vermont. Gregory had to undergo open-heart surgery this past summer. Though the procedure was a success, his recuperation had been a real struggle. I have been in contact with Professors John Berninghausen and Clara Yu, Gregory's close friends and colleagues at Middlebury, both of whom are deeply saddened by Gregory's passing and are helping Gregory's family make funeral arrangements.

This Wednesday (October 18), from 7-9 PM, there will be a wake at the Sanderson Funeral Home on 115 South Main St. in Middlebury. On Thursday at 11:00 AM, there will be a service in Mead Chapel. There will be a burial after the service. I will be attending all events on both Wednesday and Thursday. Gregory was a colleague in our profession for many years and had many friends.
