Harvard Chinese Pedagogical Grammar Workshop: Theory and Practice
In conjunction with ACTFL 2000 (Nov. 16-19, Boston), the Chinese Language Program at Harvard University is proposing a one day pre-conference workshop, Nov. 16, 2000, on Chinese Pedagogical Grammar to be held at Harvard University.
Purpose:
The purpose of this training workshop is to bring current
Chinese language teachers in the United States up-to-date on issues and research
results in Chinese pedagogical grammar, and to provide them with a forum to
discuss, in depth, topics of common concern. Leading figures of Chinese
pedagogical grammar in the field will be invited to make presentations.
Format:
The workshop is divided in two parts, theory and practice. In
the morning two key presenters will present their views on key issues of Chinese
pedagogical grammar, and their research results from their lifelong Chinese language teaching and research. A long and
detailed discussion will follow each presentation.
The afternoon is devoted to practical issues, such as how to apply the results of Chinese linguistic study to the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, and classroom presentations of particular grammar points. The organizer of the workshop will write to each participant, eliciting what they want to learn and discuss at the workshop. The participants will then be informed of the selected topics for their discussion preparation. A leader of discussion of each topic will be chosen, and will make a short presentation on the topic to lead off the discussion.
Participants: By registration, limited enrollment.
Location: Harvard University, Cambridge, MA
Registration deadline: Sept. 30 2000
