Lecturer in Modern Chinese
The Chinese Program of Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, Columbia University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Modern Chinese, beginning Fall 2002. Requirements: native competency in modern Chinese with standard pronunciation, fluency in English; MA in hand by May 2002 with specialization in, language pedagogy, applied linguistics or a relevant discipline; demonstrated ability to teach college level Chinese and to prepare teaching materials independently or collaboratively, in addition to full participation in team work and program affairs. The application dossier should include: a letter of application in English including a brief statement about language teaching, a self-introduction in Chinese (handwritten in traditional characters), CV and three letters of recommendation (preferably two of which by language teaching professionals). A 30-minute videotape demonstrating the applicant's teaching styles and sample work are strongly recommended. The committee will start to consider applications November 30, 2001 and continue the search until the position is filled.
