Lecturer in Modern Chinese

The Chinese Program of Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Modern Chinese, beginning Fall 2003. Requirements: native competency in modern Chinese with standard pronunciation, fluency in English; M.A. in hand by May 2003 with specialization in language pedagogy, applied linguistics, or a relevant discipline; demonstrated ability to teach college level Chinese and to prepare teaching materials independently or collaboratively, in addition to full participation in team work and program affairs. The application dossier should include: a letter of application in English, including a brief statement about language teaching, a self-introduction in Chinese (hand written in traditional characters), CV and three letters of recommendation (preferably two of which by language teaching professionals). A 30-minute video tape demonstrating the applicant’s teaching styles and sample work are strongly recommended. The committee will start to consider applications November 30th, 2002 and continue the search until the position is filled.
