Chinese Language and Literature

The Department of Languages and Literature at University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track position in Chinese Language and Late Imperial Literature beginning on July 1, 2003. Application deadline is December 1, 2002. We particularly seek applicants who specialize in narrative literature and Ming-Qing fiction. Native or near-native fluency in both Chinese and English; Ph.D. in Chinese or Comparative Literature in hand at the time of appointment. The successful candidate should demonstrate outstanding abilities in both teaching and research. Teaching responsibilities include courses on Chinese language at all levels (including classical Chinese), Chinese culture, and narrative literature during the classical period. Teaching load is two courses per semester. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the growing Chinese major program, Asian Studies program, and to participate in committee services in the Department, College of Humanities, and the University. University of Utah is a research institution and provides excellent resources and opportunities for faculty in their scholarly research.
