UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SANTA BARBARA. The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies invites applications for anticipated Lecturer positions in Chinese language instruction for the 2000/01 academic year, part or full time, contingent upon need and funding. The appointments are potentially renewable on a yearly basis. Applicants should have an MA degree in Chinese language acquisition or a closely related area with native or near native proficiency in Chinese in addition to significant teaching experience. Lecturers will be expected to teach various modern Chinese language courses, and should be willing and able to train teaching assistants, compile teaching materials, and design curriculum. Familiarity with computer assisted language instruction and other technology in language-teaching is desirable. The salary is based on U.C. scale and depends upon qualifications. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and any appropriate collective bargaining agreement. The application deadline is November 15, 1999, however, the search will continue until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be conducted during the 1999 ACTFL meeting in Dallas.
