Chinese Language Summer Study Abroad Program

Chinese Language Summer Study Abroad Program at Hainan University, sponsored by University of Hawaii at Manoa Study Abroad Center, will host levels 2, 3, and 4 of intensive study for 9 weeks in Mandarin. Classes will begin on May 22, 2000 and will terminate on July 21. Students earn 8 semester credits.
Students will live in a recently renovated, air-conditioned dorm designated specifically for foreign students. In addition to formal classes every morning, individual one on one tutoring sessions are arranged in the afternoon. Evening lectures on various aspects of Chinese culture and weekly Tai Chi lessons are expected to be offered at no extra cost. Four fields trips, one of which is a four-night study tour of Beijing, are also an important part of the study abroad program.
Although the final cost has not yet been finalized, it is expected to be under $4000. This figure includes roundtrip airfare from Hawaii, tuition, dorm, field trips, and lunch 5 days a week.
