The 2001 International Conference on Chinese Pedagogy
With a Focus on Teaching Chinese Characters and Other Difficult Issues
Meeting time: June 21-24, 2001
Place: Yichang, Hubei, P.R. China (Near Shennongjia)
I. Important and New Deadlines:
1. Attendee抯 Information Form: As soon as possible (See the form at the end)
2. Abstract: January 15, 2001.
3. Completed paper and conference fees ($280): February 25, 2001
Notes:
(1) All attendees must submit their abstracts first. The review process takes approximately fourteen days. To those accepted, letters of acceptance will be issued through email except special cases.
(2) Papers submitted after the deadline (February 25, 2001) may not be included in the published conference proceedings.
(3) For those who need the letter to apply for travel fund, please submit their abstracts as soon as possible.
II. How and Where to send your abstract, paper and fees:
1. Send your abstract (with your email address and also carefully checked) to Dr. John Yu at <jzqyu@yahoo.com> by January 15, 2001. Letters of acceptance will be issued by the Academic Committee on or before February 1, 2001.
2. Send the following items by AIR MAIL post marked by February 25, 2001 to Professor Li Xiangkun:
(1) A hard copy of your research paper;
(2) A disk containing a computer file of your paper;
(3) A personal check with the correct amount (Fees for each conference attendee is US$280, and for each accompanying family member is $150), and properly signed and dated. Please pay to the order of Professor Li Xiangkun. Attach a note if you wish.

Notes:
Paper Format:
(1) Length: up to 4 pages (8.5 x 11), single-spaced. Extra pages will increase the charge.
(2) Margins: top and bottom 2.54 cm (1 in); left and right 3 cm (1.18 in).
(3) English in Times New Roman font (12 point) and Chinese in GB code preferred.
(4) File type: Microsoft Word.
Conference Fees: This year, the fees are slightly lower than the last year抯, but one more guided tour is added.
Conference Attendees: $280.
Accompanying Family Members: $150.
All the regular meals, two banquets, and snacks during the conference period and two guided tours to Yichang and Jingzhou are provided for all conference attendees and their accompanying family members. Each conference attendee will also receives a copy of the Conference Proceedings and a copy of the group photo.
Working Languages (for abstracts/papers and presentations): English or Chinese.
III. Lodging Costs:
The Conference Logistics Committee will reserve Hotel rooms at a three-star hotel in Yichang (at the Conference site) for all registered conference attendees and their family members. Hotel guests will be responsible for their own bills. The cost is estimated to be RMB 100-140 yuan per bed/per day. More details forthcoming.
The Conference Logistic Committee will also arrange some group transportation service to and from the airport.
More details on lodging and transportation will be provided later.
IV. Information for Shennongjia Tour:
For those who wish to visit Shennongjia, the cost will be extra. Tour information will be provided by a local travel agent on the conference site.
