Lecturer in Chinese language

The University of Chicago, Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, seeks to hire one (and possibly a second) lecturer in Chinese for the 2002-2003 academic year. Appointment will be for an initial three-year period (renewable). Responsibilities include teaching the middle levels of modern Chinese and participation in the ongoing development of the Chinese language program. M.A. in East Asian studies or language pedagogy is required. Teaching experience and knowledge of computer-based Chinese language acquisition methods is highly desired. Application materials should include: letter of interest, CV, three letters of recommendation, and a course syllabus designed for one quarter (ten weeks) of a second year modern Chinese course (including texts used and week-by-week lesson plans). Submission of a video teaching demonstration or audio tape is strongly encouraged.
