Chinese Language Fellow
Vassar College, a leading, private liberal arts college located in the beautiful Hudson Valley (approximately two hours by train from New York City), is pleased to announce an opening for a Chinese Language Fellow (Intern) for the 2002-03 academic year (late August, 2002, through late May, 2003.) Responsibilities include a workload of twelve hours a week, including some drill sessions. The Language Fellow, who must be a native speaker of Chinese, assists faculty members in the instruction of Chinese. Language Fellows receive free room and board on Vassar’s campus in student dormitories for the academic year (except during the winter and spring breaks when the dining hall is closed), a $450 per month stipend (10 months), and may take up to two courses per semester free at Vassar. Language Fellows should have a B.A., as well as a good command of the English language so they may benefit from the opportunity to enroll in Vassar courses. Transportation to and from Vassar is not included. The application should include a letter, CV, a sound tape of self-introduction in Mandarin and English, and at least one letter of recommendation. Review of applications will begin on March 1, 2002 and continue until the position is filled. Inquiries or applications should be sent to the Asian Studies Director: Professor Martha Kaplan, Director, Program in Asian Studies, Box 740, Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, NY 12604 U.S.A.; or FAX (845) 437-7578.
