Tenure-Track Faculty Position
POSITION: Assistant Professor (Chinese)
EFFECTIVE DATE: August 25, 1999
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in a related field by the time of appointment. Candidates must have native or near-native Chinese language competency and the ability to communicate effectively with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Potential for effective teaching and scholarship in the area of specialization.
DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Specialization in foreign language education and an appropriate related social science discipline. Candidates with experience in language teaching and pedagogy and the knowledge of latest instructional computer technology will be given preference. Preference is given to applicants with teaching and research experience in Chinese Studies. Also preferred is an interest in grant writing and curriculum development. Potential to engage students in research activities.
DUTIES: The appointees normal teaching load will be twelve (12) units per semester. He/She will teach all levels of Chinese and courses in his/her specialized field of study. The appointee will also be expected to contribute to the department through regular research and publications; committee work at the departmental, collegiate and university-wide levels; participation in departmental, collegiate and university-wide activities; and developing grant proposals for external funding. The appointee will participate in developing the departments Chinese curriculum. The appointee should write funding proposals in his/her area of expertise and contribute to promoting community outreach.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with professional background and experience. $37,956--$46,764 annually.
