2001 OPI Tester Training Workshops

ACTFL Professional Programs has announced its 2001 Oral Proficiency Interview and Modified Oral Proficiency Interview Tester Training Workshop Schedule. OPI Tester Training Workshops are scheduled in the following cities: Boston, MA, Glendale, AZ, Middlebury, VT and Washington, DC. The Modified Oral Proficiency Interview Tester Training Workshops will take place in San Diego, CA, Atlanta, GA, and Madison, NJ.

The ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview Tester Training workshop is an intensive hands-on training experience that teaches language professionals the theory and practice of assessing an individual’s spoken proficiency in a language. Workshop participants learn to elicit speech samples that are then rated according to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines-Speaking (Revised 1999). OPI Tester Training profoundly influences an educator’s ability to focus more carefully and with more of a critical eye on the placement of students, as well as to measure the quantity and the quality of the progress that students make during their language learning experiences. Learning to assess what students know and can do with language directly impacts an educator’s ability to plan curriculum and instructional approaches.

During the full 4-day OPI workshop, participants learn to test and rate up to the Superior level of the ACTFL proficiency scale. During the 2-day MOPI workshop, participants learn to rate at the Novice and Intermediate levels. ACTFL OPI Tester Training Workshops are intended for teaching professionals who are affiliated with academic institutions. An undergraduate degree in a field related to the teaching of languages and a minimal proficiency level of Advanced are assumed for workshop participants. A limited number of workshop tuition grants is available through the ACTFL Professional Programs Department.
