Inter-University Program for

Chinese Language Studies at Tsinghua (IUP)

2000-2001 Academic Year Program

The Inter-University Board for Chinese Language Studies (IUB) announces its 2000-2001 Academic Year Program, located at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Applications are welcome from graduate and undergraduate students (in the US or abroad), unaffiliated students such as those between undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as established scholars in the field of Chinese Studies. The IUP pedagogy is designed for students whose native language is English or those who have received their higher education in English. Applicants must have completed the equivalent of at least two academic years of Chinese language studies in a high quality college-level program. Evidence of the intention to pursue further academic training and/or a future career involving China is also required. The Chinese Proficiency Test (CPT) administered by the Center for Applied Linguistics is required for application to the academic year program. Attendance fees for the 2000-2001 program are $14,900, and include tuition, housing, and emergency medical insurance. Financial aid, in the form of partial tuition waivers, is available through IUB, though students are also encouraged to seek outside sources of funding. The application deadline is January 14, 2000. Summer Intensive Program 2000

The Inter-University Board for Chinese Language Studies (IUB) announces its 2000 Summer Intensive Program, located at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Applications are welcome from graduate and undergraduate students (in the US or abroad), unaffiliated students such as those between undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as established scholars in the field of Chinese Studies. The IUP pedagogy is designed for students whose native language is English or those who have received their higher education in English. Applicants must have completed the equivalent of at least two academic years of Chinese language studies in a high quality college-level program. Evidence of the intention to pursue further academic training and/or a future career involving China is also required. Attendance fees for the 2000 summer program are $4,200, and include tuition, housing, and emergency medical insurance. Financial aid for the Summer Intensive Program is not available through IUB, but students are encouraged to seek outside sources of funding (Blakemore, FLAS, etc.). The application deadline is January 14, 2000.
