China/Taiwan Exchange Programs

The University of Massachusetts offers summer, semester and academic year programs at Tunghai University, Taichung, Taiwan and semester and academic year programs at Shaanxi Teachers University, Xi’an, China. The Tunghai programs focus on Chinese language studies at the intermediate and advanced levels. Applicants must have a minimum of one year intensive, college-level Chinese. The Shaanxi programs focus on the study of Chinese language and culture at the intermediate and advanced levels. Students must have a minimum of two years of intensive, college-level Chinese. All programs include: room, minor health care, tuition and field trips. The Shaanxi programs also include a meal stipend. CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE STUDY TOUR IN TAIPEI
Located on the NTNU campus in Taipei, the Center provides modern facilities including computer and listening labs, library and air-conditioned classrooms. In addition to the regularly scheduled four quarters and summer session, the CCLC specially arranges two to five-week Chinese Language and Culture Study Tours and two-week Chinese Arts Study Tours. The intensive courses are open to students at all levels and designed to meet the needs of academic groups, business groups, or museum friends with a special interest in Chinese culture, but limited time to spend in Taiwan. The courses cover fields such as language instruction, politics, economics, religion, culture, art and other areas of interest. Lectures, tours, performances, field trips, etc. are combined to enable students to better understand Chinese culture and society as well as increase international interest and awareness. The tours are planned to correspond with winter and summer vacations, but can also be arranged to fit the schedule of an interested group.

CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE STUDY TOUR
The two-week to five-week Chinese Language and Culture Study Tour is designed for groups of 10 or more organized by a museum, gallery, academic or business institute. Fees range from US$850-US$1600, depending on length and group size, and cover tuition, course materials, housing, travel, activity charges and admission tickets.

CHINESE ARTS STUDY TOUR
The two-week Chinese Arts Study Tour, with a special focus on the collections of National Palace Museum and National History Museum in Taipei is designed for groups of 10 or more organized by a museum, gallery, academic or business institute. Fees range from US$1270-US$1450, depending on group size, and cover tuition, course materials, housing, travel, activity charges and admission tickets. The application deadline is Nov 15, 1998 and Apr 15, 1999. Summer Program in Hainan, China 1999

The University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) Study Abroad Center and the Chinese section of the Department of East Asian Languages and Literature invite applicants to study Chinese language and culture during a nine-week, intensive, immersion program at Hainan University in Haikou. Students must have completed at least one year of college level Chinese and be able to enroll in intermediate, third-level or fourth-level Mandarin classes. Intermediate level students will use Integrated Chinese textbooks on site in Hainan. The program will begin in early-June and run through mid-August.
